Movie Review: Footloose 2011

Attended the preview screening of dance movie, FOOTLOOSE (tickets provided by UIP Singapore and omy.sg ) on Monday 24th Oct 2011.

Cast:
Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, Andie MacDowell and Dennis Quaid

Synopsis::
Writer/Director Craig Brewer delivers a new take of the beloved 1984 classic film, “Footloose.”  Ren MacCormack (played by newcomer Kenny Wormald) is transplanted from  Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock.
A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont’s local council men and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing for age below 18.
Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister’s troubled daughter Ariel (Julianne Hough) in the process.

I love the original movie, although... I've watched it when I'm around 10 or 12(Can't remember much about the storylines now except Kevin Bacon's sexy dance and skinny legs).

Both top and bottem pics were from the Original Footloose.

Back then I simply love 80s teen movies (John Cusack is the pretty boy prince charming lead actor in all those teen movies!! lolx).

Why I love 80s? Beside all those classic retro musics... they have wonderful teen movies!! Loving the chessy, cute plotlines, colorful fashion and crazy hair styles!! Kekekee... Anyway, I'm a dance movies freak(beside romance and horror), from Dirty Dancing, Flash Dance, Strictly Ballroom(MY top fave), Saturday Night Fever and ects ...

OK, back to Footloose:::
I remember 80s teen movies always have simple but meaningful plot lines and dialogues. (But it does sound abit coarse and flat sometimes, especially the original Footloose) ... BUT the remakes, they edit, polished and mades those dialoques sound so smooth and funny!! (It makes much sense as compare to the original version.)

Beside the structure of the remake was much smoother and well connected as compare to the original (cos I remember some scenes were pretty odd and jumping around in the original) and it also did a good jobs at developing the "romance" between the leads.

If you are a fan of the original Footloose, you will find this remake "almost" identical.. from funny taglines, quotes, car, some of the "action" scenes and even the sidekick "Willard"(played by Miles Teller(remake) and Chris Penn(original)) look almost similar too!(lolx)

It's like taking old script, polish it and then film it! Don't get me wrong, I love the remake... they did a great job at making a wonderful movie to a much better one!!!! Although, I still prefer Kevin Bacon's sexy dance's moves(lolx) ... But I like the new female lead "Julianne Hough".

I love the tone and the cinematography of the remake...

I know it's pretty rare that towns have forbidden public dancing by law in US... But it does, in 1980, People Magazine ran a story about students at Elmore City High School in Elmore City, Oklahoma, who had to lobby the town's and school's officials for permission to have a prom. They were successful, and their prom was the first legal public dance in Elmore City since the town's 1861 founding. The plot of both this movie and its source, 1984's Footloose, were loosely based on Elmore City's story. [source]

I know... the movie doesn't have much depth, but this is a teen movie... it's suppose to be simple and cheesy!

My Rating: 8/10
I love the comedy scenes.. I was LOL~ing and it's does help to cheer me up abit and temporary forget the stuff that was stressing about!
